Every serious gymnast needs a strong conviction and high endurance to excel at the sport, but sometimes the pains associated with practice and performance are not necessary. If you, or your children, are suffering from chafing and bleeding of the hands on the uneven bars, high bar, parallel bars, or still rings it is likely caused by the hand grips. For gymnastics to be fun and positive, it’s critical to use the correct gear.

For our clients, and ourselves, we strongly recommend Reisport Grips.  These gloves offer superior leverage to maintain a solid grip on the apparatus, and they are built with quality in mind. One of the biggest advantages of the Reisport Grips is the craftsmanship that goes into every grip. For uneven bars, the rubber dowel is not tied on the grip like other manufactures often do, but it is attached with an adhesive and sewn into the grip for ultimate support.

Once you switch to a high quality grip, it’s hard to imagine ever going back. Yet, even the best grips can become a problem if they don’t fit securely in your hand.

Getting the right size is just as important as buying the right brand of hand grips for gymnastics. Make sure you know how to order the right size grips. With uneven bar grips, the key is to measure from the base of your palm to the tip of the longest finger. This length should be used to determine what size grip to use: XX-Small for 5½” or smaller, XSmall is 5½ to 6”, Small is 6 to 6½”, Medium is 6½ to 7¼”, and Large is 7¼” and up for women.
